Ethics in Public Contracting
The State's procurement laws provide for purchasing procedures to ensure that public funds are appropriately administered and spent. An important element in public procurement practices is the ethical standard required of the individuals involved in the process. Article 4, Sections 11-72 through 11-80, of the Code of Virginia provides guidelines for the ethical practices of individuals involved in public contracting and the events which result in the execution of contracts and related purchase actions. It is essential that individuals who participate in procurements be aware of their ethical responsibilities and the minimum standards required by law. Questions should be addressed to the Department of Procurement and Payment.
