Reporting Potential Fraud
The University is bound by the Code of Virginia to notify the Auditor of Public Accounts "upon the discovery of circumstances suggesting a reasonable possibility that a fraudulent transaction has occurred involving funds or property." If you are aware or suspect that a fraudulent act occurred, you should promptly advise your immediate supervisor of the situation. Your supervisor will contact the appropriate administrative officer in your school or office, who is responsible for reporting the situation to the Internal Audit Department and the VCU Police. The University's Internal Audit Department will notify the Auditor of Public Accounts. You should document your actions in a memorandum or notes.
